Hispanic Guide

3 V's For Life Healthy and Active Communities Initiative is a partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health, Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, Springfield-Greene County Health Department, University of Missouri Extension, RecFin of Nixa, and Greene County Ethnic Ministries.

Programs and Services

Professional Mental Health Services

Psychological evaluations, psycho-therapy, martial and family therapy, the "Healthier You" counseling series and other services to meet professional mental health care needs with the supervision and services of licensed mental health professionals.

Healthier Lifestyle

The "3 V's" Vitality, Vim and Vigor for Life nutrition and active lifestyle program promotes and models healthier eating and nutrition choices, community health awareness, and fit and more active lifestyles. Health parties and FIT Teams are part of the 3 V's program.

Family Health Education

Parent education classes focus on healthier families including physical and mental health, parenting skills, and healthier and more active family lifestyles.

Translation and Interpreting Services

Services are provided for health organizations, clinics, health information centers, and community organizations to provide culturally sensitive health materials in resource centers for the underserved populations.

Community Health Activities

Organized community activities and events bring together resources and the most needy populations and include; vaccination clinics, WIC clinics, health food projects, and other organized projects with over 90 other community organizations and agencies focusing on the health of the people of the community.

Community Awareness Activities

Professional health education presentations and programs promote community health awareness issues, health disparities, cultural health barriers, and a variety of other health related issues for public and professional workshops, lectures, and classes to promote culturally appropriate health services and awareness of barriers to healthier lifestyles.

Publications

The "Guia Hispana" is published in Spanish to provide a community living guide which includes, health, safety, and community living information .

Health Partnership

NOW ORGANIZING 2010!

A health partnershiptrip is scheduled annually every summer for Mexico. This year's trip will feature projects in Guadalajara, Mexico. Come and join this cultural experience. Spanish skills ARE NOT required. Translators will be available.

Recent experiences include projects in the city of Leon, Mexico and travel to a primitive Purepecha Indian village.   The 3-5 hour drive from the city to the mountains gives team members the opportunity to learn about various areas of the country and insight into the variety of needs in the villages and communities.

The primary focus of the team's work is joining Hand In Hand  with the Mexican team and the Christian Medical Society of Mexico to set up medical clinics, assist in building and construction projects, work with children's projects and minister to the needs of the adults in small villages as well as to specific areas and neighborhoods in the city. 

Leon, Mexico has been a major focus for the past 5 years.   The team has assisted in building a medical clinic/church building as well as several projects out in the primitive villages of the mountainous area near Leon, working with the Purepecha Indians.

3 V's for Life

Health Parties

Health Educators host home health parties to educate participants in good food choices, healthful cooking tips, and basic good nutrition, and how to incorporate these principles into your current daily activity.

F.I.T. Teams

FIT (fitness in training)Team Coaches will develop groups with similar interests and meet regularly for physical activity. It can be anything at all! Jogging, playing baseball, or just walking the dogs together!

F.I.T. Centers

Hosted in area businesses, these centers will consist of creative and culturally sensitive materials related to nutrition, physical activity, local recreational areas, and places that promote activity and wellness. Materials will be provided in English and Spanish.

Professional Counseling

Individually adapted health behavior modification available. Support groups organized on a regular basis to assure availability and convenience.

Community-Wide Campaigns

Information broadcasts through TV, radio, newspapers, public notices, billboards, and mailings. "3V's" hosts an annual celebration to recognize achievements, attendance, participation, and consistency.

F.I.T. Mobile

The F.I.T. Mobile will house games, exercise and activity equipment to be used by the F.I.T. teams at health parties and special community events.
